Resume Summary

Here's a brief summary of my background:

  • Seasoned, customer-focused B2B marketer/business manager with a track record of growing sales and profits. This includes making changes when I was Asia Marketing Manager that helped the region increase its sales by 130% and be the one region to beat its sales plan
  • Proven ability to lead multi-disciplined teams through the entire product life cycle, including one project where I led a team that updated and launched an improved product resulting in doubling sales of the product line to $10 million a year
  • 10+ years experience in marketing, technical, and customer service positions
  • Ability to understand technical concepts and translate them into value to customer
  • Strong entrepreneurial attitude
  • MBA

Right now I am consulting for start-ups or for companies involved with getting into new geographic markets (often East Asian companies trying to get into the States, which makes sense given that I have lived in Korea, studied in Japan, am currently working on becoming fluent in Japanese (both verbal and written), and have studied and worked in the various business cultures of the region. I would be interested in the right corporate position that would allow me to work more with Asia, and better yet, allow me to spend some time (or perhaps a lot of time) in Japan. Becoming fluent has been a goal of mine recently, and a job that would help me towards that goal would be great. My background would make me very well suited for positions like:

  • Regional Manager for Asia for a Western Company - using someone from a local country to manage the region often doesn't work because of cultural and historical differences between countries. One way around this is to use an outsider who is culturally aware and used to working in the region - which I am.
  • American Business Manager for an Asian Company - most any company that wants to be global needs to succeed in the American market, but the American business culture is very different than the Asian business culture. One way around this is to use someone (like me) who can be a bridge between the cultures and has the business savvy needed to make the American business a success.

Of course, I am also well suited for more traditional positions, like product marketing management, product manager, marketing manager, business manager, etc. For the right position, I may be tempted to leave my current consulting projects.
